RSL HyBird 5 – hybrid feather shuttlecock for training and club play
The RSL HyBird 5 combines natural feathers with a stabilising hybrid construction. It is designed for players who appreciate the feel of a feather shuttlecock while also valuing durability in everyday training.
Natural feathers and a nylon connector: the HyBird 5 construction
In the HyBird 5, RSL combines real feathers with a connecting component made from modified nylon. This connector is designed to absorb impact forces and reduce stress on the individual feathers.
According to RSL, the construction is intended to reduce feather bending near the base and help the shuttlecock retain its shape through repeated strokes. The natural feathers contribute to the feel on impact and the shuttlecock’s rotation in flight. The HyBird 5 is therefore not an entirely synthetic plastic shuttlecock.
The hybrid construction is designed to improve durability. How long a shuttlecock remains playable also depends on how it is struck and the demands placed on it.
Who do we recommend the RSL HyBird 5 for?
Our assessment: for regular club and recreational training, as well as school badminton groups that want to play with natural feathers. We would particularly shortlist it where a familiar feather-shuttle feel and durability during training are both important.
Our tip for training groups: Try one tube in your usual sports hall first. This lets you assess the feel on impact, flight behaviour and suitable speed before switching your regular shuttlecock supply to this model.
